Anno 1701 vista installation

The little loading mouse pointer appeared. It's working, I said to myself, foolishly. After a second or two, the normal pointer reappeared, and nothing else happened.

I pointlessly tried running it as administrator in every service pack, with the same result each time. What is it with this series and names? Gold Edition. While I was waiting for it to arrive, I did some last Googling.

As far as I can tell, no one yet has figured out how to run on Windows 8. So, long story short, if anyone out there has any tips, I'd be happy to hear them. Think Civilization meets Age of Empires. Of course, if you read this far, you have probably played it. I haven't tried the french patch on it. I just tried the german patch and it seemed to want to install but I ended up backing out of it although I think it did mess something up because the game is not running now. Moryarity, I can't get in to the game right now to check but it was not really anything more specific than "wrong version" and did not provide an error number, version number, or anything like that.

It seemed to download just fine and I had no problem connecting with my friend the first time we tried multiplayer, but after that I could not do multiplayer.

I don't see any special way to patch the game directly through steam so I tried the downloadable patches. Nothing has worked so far. I think this pretty much covers everything. Okay, I downloaded the game once again and reinstalled it. Both times it seemed to download and install just fine. Here is the exact error it tells me: " Wrong Version! You cannot join in this game. As I said the in game auto-updater does not work nor will it let me manually patch it. I am still at a loss though as to why this isn't letting me play multiplayer.

Am I looking in the right place? You have to access the folder option in the control panel and open that you can see hidden and system files. Then it appears and you can open it with the Editor. Thanks for all your help Martin, I've tried your suggestion but no luck I'm afraid. Tages driver is up to date too. I am sure it has something to do with the fact that when I re-install the game, it is not asking me for language or serial number and therefor it's not loading properly.

Do you have any thoughts on this?
